On Ubuntu/Debian, including Ubuntu in WSL:
sudo apt update
sudo apt install -y git curl ca-certificates python3 bash
On other distributions, install these tools with your package manager. You can keep an existing Node/npm installation if node --version reports 20 or later.
The official Node.js download page provides this per-user installation using nvm:
curl -o- https://raw.githubusercontent.com/nvm-sh/nvm/v0.40.8/install.sh | bash
. "$HOME/.nvm/nvm.sh"
nvm install 24
nvm use 24
The first command runs nvm's remote installer; you can also choose another method from the official page. Verify your tools:
node --version
npm --version
git --version
python3 --version
python3 -c 'import pty, fcntl, termios, selectors, codecs; print("PTY Python OK")'
test -x /bin/bash && echo "Bash OK"
Continue with Install and start.
